About Mark

Much of the vision and craftsmanship on the house came from Mark. A lighting and scenic designer for theater, ballet, and opera, he realized as he began to work on this house that this was a new kind of palette for his creativity -- a set that wouldn't get torn down at the end of the production.

As a result, his tongue-in-cheek motto became "why do when you can overdo?" Crafting his own vision of an Arts and Crafts bungalow became as much a process of self-expression as a construction project.

About Leigh

Leigh dragged the crew with her to California to complete her doctorate in cultural mythology and psychology at Pacifica Graduate Institute. She wrote her dissertation on imagination and frivolity and is a freelance writer, marketing consultant, and mother hen of the Imaginal Institute, a 'creativity tank' that offers retreats, workshops, and online learning. She did much of the gardening on the property and has attempted to be the occasional voice of reason when making renovation decisions, but as someone who's invested heavily in frivolity, her successes at that have been limited.

After a dozen years in Southern California, Leigh and Mark are returning to their roots on the East Coast to be closer to family and to move on to the next adventure -- a farm in the foothills of the Catskill Mountains. Their re-imagining process for the house on Prospect Street is done -- it's time for someone else to love it and make it their own.
